you first saw this world
    with big chocolate eyes—
you were the first quarter moon,
    shining white in starry skies.

you are the april flowers,
    bright in every way—
you are the yellow sun,
    smiling high ‘til break of may!

the rains have come and gone,
    the clouds have waved their good-byes—
you turn your gaze northward,
    and ponder all the whys—

the world is at your feet, my dear,
    the sun will light your day—
your path ahead is ‘ever clear,
    my prayers have found their way.
